The important fine print, in plain English.
Comparisons use plan and rate data published by energy retailers through the official Consumer Data Right (CDR) energy data feeds (as aggregated by the AER's Energy Made Easy service), refreshed nightly. Retailers occasionally publish incomplete or out-of-date information, and some plan types we cannot model fairly (for example demand tariffs and plans with membership-style eligibility conditions) are deliberately excluded from rankings. If live data is unavailable, the tool clearly indicates it is using an illustrative sample catalogue, and those results should not be relied on.
OzCurrent is in early release (beta). Coverage focuses on households and small businesses of retailers in competitive markets (NSW, VIC, South-East QLD, SA and the ACT), plus limited offers in Tasmania, and is expanding. Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and price-regulated regional networks (such as Ergon in regional QLD) are not yet covered.
Our comparisons and any savings figures are estimates based on the information you provide and on plan data believed to be current at the time. Your actual costs and savings will depend on your real usage, the retailer's current rates, fees, discounts, eligibility conditions and your behaviour. We do not guarantee any particular saving or outcome.
We deliberately do not advertise a headline savings figure. Energy use varies enormously between households, and far more between businesses, so a number drawn from someone else's bill tells you very little about your own — and a figure calculated from a live market moves week to week. The only figure worth anything to you is the one produced from your usage and rates, which is free and takes about two minutes.
We do publish worked examples here, so you can judge the method rather than just be handed an answer. They are illustrations, not current prices: a snapshot of what the model returned for five made-up profiles on 16 August 2026. The market moves constantly, so treat the dollar figures as a demonstration of how the calculation works, not as what you would save today. Only the comparison run on your own usage tells you that.
The only figure that means anything for you is the one the tool produces from your actual usage and rates — and that is free to obtain.
Before changing plans or retailers, confirm the current rates, fees, discounts and conditions on the retailer's Basic Plan Information Document / Energy Fact Sheet. Check whether your current plan has an exit fee, and whether any benefit period or conditions apply to a new plan.
Competitive energy retail markets vary by location. Meaningful retail competition for gas exists only in some states/regions, and some areas have regulated or limited electricity competition. Where we cannot rank competing offers, we will say so.
OzCurrent takes no commission from energy retailers. We are paid by our customers, so our only incentive is to find you the best plan — even if that means staying where you are or negotiating with your current retailer.
