OzCurrent Pty Ltd (ACN 700 078 075) ("OzCurrent", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose and protect your personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

1. What we collect

  • Contact details — your email address (and name, if provided).
  • Seasonal watch — if you ask us to keep watching your numbers, we keep your email together with the comparison details you entered, so we can re-run them each season. We email you at most four times a year, only when the change is worth your time, and every email carries a one-click unsubscribe that stops them immediately.
  • Energy information — postcode, energy usage, tariff type and rates, solar/feed-in details, and information from any bill you upload (which may include your NMI / meter number if it appears on the bill).
  • Payment information — handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store your full card details.
  • Technical/usage data — we keep anonymous, aggregate counts only (for example, how many comparisons were run on a given day). These counts contain no identifiers: no cookies, no IP addresses, no device or browser profiling, and no record that can be traced back to you.

We aim to collect the minimum needed: your postcode, usage and rates. We do not require your home address or your meter number (NMI) to run a comparison.

2. Why we collect it

  • To compare your plan against the market and show you results.
  • To send you the reports and updates you subscribe to.
  • To process your subscription and provide support.
  • To maintain, secure and improve the service.

3. Bill uploads, AI processing and data retention

If you upload a bill, it is sent securely to our AI processing provider (Anthropic, the maker of Claude) solely to extract the rates and usage needed for your comparison. The extracted numbers are shown to you for review; the bill file itself is not stored by us — it is processed transiently and discarded. Under Anthropic's API terms, your bill is not used to train AI models. If AI processing is unavailable, your bill is read locally in your browser and never leaves your device.

We retain your usage and account data while you have an active account and for 2 years afterwards, unless you ask us to delete it sooner, or we are required to keep it by law.

4. How we disclose information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:

  • Service providers who help us operate — hosting and database (Supabase, Netlify), transactional email (Resend), payments (Stripe) and AI bill reading (Anthropic) — under confidentiality obligations.
  • Energy retailers only with your explicit consent (for example, if you ask us to help you switch).
  • Authorities where required or permitted by law.

5. Where your data is stored

Your account and usage data is stored in a database located in Sydney, Australia (Supabase, AWS ap-southeast-2). Some of our service providers process data outside Australia:

  • Transactional email — Resend, processed in Japan (Tokyo region) and the United States. Applies to your email address and the content of emails we send you.
  • Payments — Stripe, United States.
  • AI bill reading — Anthropic, United States. Applies only if you upload a bill, and the file is not retained (see section 3).
  • Hosting — Netlify, United States.

By using these features you consent to that overseas disclosure. Where it happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.

6. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), encrypted storage, row-level access controls so each customer can only ever access their own data, and least-privilege access to systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

You can sign in either with a one-click link we email you, or with a password if you choose to set one — both work, and you never have to set a password. If you do set one, it is hashed by our authentication provider (Supabase) and stored only in that form: we cannot read it, it is never written to your browser's storage, and it is never included in any email we send. If you forget it, we can only help you replace it, not recover it. You can change it at any time from your account page.

7. Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies and local browser storage to run the site and remember your choices. So you don't lose your work if you leave the comparison page and come back, the figures you enter (or that we read from an uploaded bill) are kept in your own browser for up to 30 days — they are not sent to us by this feature, and the Start fresh button on the results, or clearing your browser data, removes them immediately. If you sign in to your account, your email address is also kept in your own browser so the sign-in box can offer it back next time instead of making you retype it — you can replace it with Use a different email, and signing out or clearing your browser data removes it. Knowing the address grants no access on its own: the sign-in link is always sent to that inbox. We currently use no third-party analytics or advertising trackers at all — no Google Analytics, no advertising pixels. The only usage measurement we keep is the anonymous aggregate count described in section 1, which involves no cookies and no personal information. Our cookie banner lets you consent to optional analytics; if we ever introduce any, it will only run where you have consented, and this policy will be updated first. You can control cookies through your browser settings and change your choice at any time.

8. Direct marketing and email

We only send commercial messages where you have consented, and every message includes a working unsubscribe option, consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). You can opt out at any time.

9. Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask to access or correct your personal information, or to have it deleted, by emailing hello@ozcurrent.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.

10. Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, contact us first at hello@ozcurrent.com. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, with the "last updated" date above.
