How we handle your personal information.
OzCurrent Pty Ltd (ACN 700 078 075) ("OzCurrent", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose and protect your personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
We aim to collect the minimum needed: your postcode, usage and rates. We do not require your home address or your meter number (NMI) to run a comparison.
If you upload a bill, it is sent securely to our AI processing provider (Anthropic, the maker of Claude) solely to extract the rates and usage needed for your comparison. The extracted numbers are shown to you for review; the bill file itself is not stored by us — it is processed transiently and discarded. Under Anthropic's API terms, your bill is not used to train AI models. If AI processing is unavailable, your bill is read locally in your browser and never leaves your device.
We retain your usage and account data while you have an active account and for 2 years afterwards, unless you ask us to delete it sooner, or we are required to keep it by law.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:
Your account and usage data is stored in a database located in Sydney, Australia (Supabase, AWS ap-southeast-2). Some of our service providers process data outside Australia:
By using these features you consent to that overseas disclosure. Where it happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), encrypted storage, row-level access controls so each customer can only ever access their own data, and least-privilege access to systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
You can sign in either with a one-click link we email you, or with a password if you choose to set one — both work, and you never have to set a password. If you do set one, it is hashed by our authentication provider (Supabase) and stored only in that form: we cannot read it, it is never written to your browser's storage, and it is never included in any email we send. If you forget it, we can only help you replace it, not recover it. You can change it at any time from your account page.
We use essential cookies and local browser storage to run the site and remember your choices. So you don't lose your work if you leave the comparison page and come back, the figures you enter (or that we read from an uploaded bill) are kept in your own browser for up to 30 days — they are not sent to us by this feature, and the Start fresh button on the results, or clearing your browser data, removes them immediately. If you sign in to your account, your email address is also kept in your own browser so the sign-in box can offer it back next time instead of making you retype it — you can replace it with Use a different email, and signing out or clearing your browser data removes it. Knowing the address grants no access on its own: the sign-in link is always sent to that inbox. We currently use no third-party analytics or advertising trackers at all — no Google Analytics, no advertising pixels. The only usage measurement we keep is the anonymous aggregate count described in section 1, which involves no cookies and no personal information. Our cookie banner lets you consent to optional analytics; if we ever introduce any, it will only run where you have consented, and this policy will be updated first. You can control cookies through your browser settings and change your choice at any time.
We only send commercial messages where you have consented, and every message includes a working unsubscribe option, consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). You can opt out at any time.
You can ask to access or correct your personal information, or to have it deleted, by emailing hello@ozcurrent.com. We will respond within a reasonable time.
If you have a privacy concern, contact us first at hello@ozcurrent.com. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, with the "last updated" date above.
